The latest Battle Dagorath is not quite as genius as its predecessor Frozen Light. Yes, the production is better and the guitars get a lot more of well-deserved attention. However, while BSB does a hell of a job, Vinterriket is truly missed this time. Keys are simpler and the interludes..., well... Still, Abyss Horizons is an outstanding example of sublime Black Metal. It takes you on a cosmic journey to your inner self and back in just 75 min. Highly recommended and easily album of the year. Mohemian
The pure joy of standing beneath these ancient trees, feeling the sunlight warm my upturned flower-face. The ecstatic freedom of running across the open plains with my tribe, footpads pounding the grass, lungs heaving, tongue lolling. The soaring feeling of my soul rising to trace the edge of jagged peaks against the sky. Whenever the mother calls, I will go to her; to the land I pledge my love, my life, my sword. Dave Aftandilian
Dark Dragons of the Cosmos originally lured me into the cosmic realms of what is otherwise known as Battle Dagorath. Distorted vocals from beyond distant stars mix with atmospheric keys and mostly razor sharp, sometimes melodic, guitar riffs, nestled into the cold monotony of a drum computer. Being already a really strong release itself, Dark Dragons should only prove to be a harbinger of the true greatness of future albums to come. Mohemian
Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end. sachavonkarl74
